Updated October 25, 2026 · Extension version 0.9.9

What the extension does

Classic Asian Cinema Subtitles styles Netflix text captions. It can show Chinese above English when Netflix has loaded both text tracks. It does not translate or provide missing subtitles.

Information processed on your device

The extension reads Netflix caption text, cue times, language labels and playback time to display subtitles. It temporarily handles the current Netflix watch identifier and caption-resource addresses with query strings and fragments removed. The popup checks the active tab address to find Netflix. It does not keep a general browsing history.

Storage and retention

Display preferences are saved in chrome.storage.local on your device. Loaded captions and viewing context stay in tab memory and are cleared when the page reloads, the tab closes or the extension detects a different video.

Network use and sharing

The extension has no analytics, advertising or developer-operated caption server. It does not upload captions, viewing information or settings. It observes text-caption responses Netflix already requests; it does not request extra tracks or download video. Netflix and Chrome continue to make their own normal requests.

Permissions

storage saves appearance preferences locally. activeTab lets the popup identify the tab you opened it from and communicate with the Netflix player. Content scripts are limited to https://www.netflix.com/* so they can observe available text captions and draw the subtitle overlay. No browsing-history, cookies, identity or download permission is requested.

Your controls and deletion

Switch styling off in the popup. Caption observation can remain installed while the Netflix page is open. Clear loaded tracks removes captured captions for this tab. Reload or close Netflix to discard tab-memory data. Removing the extension removes its saved preferences.

Limited use

The extension uses locally processed user data solely to provide its subtitle display and synchronization features. It does not sell data, use it for advertising, transfer it for unrelated purposes, or provide the developer with access to captions or viewing information. This use follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Independent extension

Classic Asian Cinema Subtitles is an independently developed extension and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Netflix. Netflix caption availability and playback behavior depend on the title, account, region and player. This policy covers the extension, not Netflix or Google services.

Companion website and optional support

The companion website’s code contains no analytics, advertising scripts or embedded payment checkout. Its subtitle preview uses original fixed sample text, and does not connect to your Netflix account. Demo selections are kept only in the current page session.

If you choose an external support link, that provider handles payment and account information under its own privacy policy. The extension does not receive card information, payment credentials or donor identity, and no Netflix caption or viewing data is added to support links. The hosting service may process ordinary connection information, such as IP addresses and request logs, to serve the website.
